In the same week that Uber Bike became official and a new driver app rolled out, the ride-hailing company announced Wednesday it was adding a car-sharing service on its app.

Say hello to Uber Rent.

In a partnership with car-share startup Getaround, Uber Rent connects users to nearby cars through the Uber app. Except instead of hopping into the back seat with a driver at the wheel, you're renting someone's car for a short amount of time. You can sign up, reserve, and unlock a car from the Getaround platform all through the Uber app.

A variety of cars, from smaller mileage-friendly sedans to bigger SUVs for road trips, are available through the app and priced out based on your rental length. Car owners, you can share your vehicle through the app and get paid. Unlike the traditional Uber app you don't have to drive the car, just be willing to have someone else take it out for the day.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced the carshare program will begin in San Francisco while at an event in Washington, D.C.

Uber and Getaround already worked together last year with a car-share service for Uber drivers to borrow cars for passenger trips. Seems this partnership entails a lot of sharing.
